ADDING BALANCE TO YOUR LIFE
Several of my friends and colleagues take classes in Tai Chi. I've been listening to their enthusiastic reports and finally I decided to try it. I thought I'd benefit from new variety in my exercise routine. Also, as a working mom, I knew I could use some relaxation techniques.
Our group at Tufts University had just started to collaborate with Ramel Rones, an expert who has studied Tai Chi for over 20 years. He agreed to teach several of us the fundamentals. Tai Chi involves a series of slow, flowing movements that require balance, strength and flexibility. I've been doing the exercises for just a few weeks, but I already see improvements in my flexibility. I find the exercises very relaxing and soothing, an oasis in the middle of a busy and sometimes stressful day.
I encourage you to try Tai Chi or yoga, along with your strength training and aerobic activity. Each form of exercise offers special benefits - the more you do, the better off you will be.
Here's wishing you greater balance and flexibility!
