Dr. Nelson, is it true that strength training can help me lose weight? Do you have any suggestions on how to get started?
- Strength training is a key ingredient to help you lose weight. Strength training will help you to build more muscle, which means a faster metabolism. The faster your metabolism, the more calories you will burn—both during exercise and at rest.
- Strength training will also make you look more fit and trim by toning and sculpting your muscles.
- To start a strength training program, try one of the following: work with an instructor at a local fitness center or a certified personal trainer in your home; or you could work independently through a program in a book, such as the one featured in my book, Strong Women Stay Slim, which outlines a complete weight loss program that includes strength training.
