Will strength training make me look muscular and bulky?

You may have seen women body builders with bulky muscles and masculine physiques.  Many women body builders take steroids or male sex hormones and follow rigorous diets to achieve those results.  They have lengthy and complex workouts that are significantly different from the StrongWomen programs.  The StrongWomen programs will NOT produce that same effect.

Strength training may actually help to trim the body not make it bulkier.  One pound of fat has a greater volume than one pound of muscle – fat takes up a greater amount of space.  For example, women who strength trained for one year as part of a research study at Tufts University gained about three pounds of muscle, and at the same time they lost three pounds of fat and a dress size or two.  These women were delighted with the change and the enormous difference in their strength!
