Two years ago I started a weight program after reading Strong Women Stay Young After 6 months I was lifting 8 lbs. when I noticed small capillaries breaking in my hands. I went back to using 4 lbs. but still have problems. What should I do?

We are not aware of any other cases of broken blood vessels in the hands from lifting free weights. (We are assuming that you are using dumbbells held in the hands and not strap on wrist weights, which could result in trauma to the hand from the pressure of the weight and potentially cause this.) The broken blood vessels in your hands may be the result of lifting weights or may have another cause.

The best recommendation is to talk to you doctor to determine the cause and evaluate any other broken veins you may have on other parts of your body. Your doctor can recommend a variety of ways to treat and remove the veins.
