Few people understand statistics better than Dr. Ellen Mahoney. An incredible researcher and breast surgeon, Dr. Mahoney has long had a personal mission to help women better understand the studies that are being shared with them in the media. Reading about a study without understanding how it was conducted is like watching a sports game without knowing the rules. The women who attended her session on "Medical Breakthroughs for Long-Term Survivors" left with a stronger sense of how to interpret medical information. |
Dr. Pepper Schwartz has long mesmerized women and men alike with her exceptual knowledge of human sexuality. Moving way beyond the obvious, Dr. Schwartz shared the science behind human sexuality and left women with a better understanding of why their sexual health was an important part of their life. A times funny, at times serious, Dr. Schwartz taught the audience how to remove sexual taboos and increase communication with their partners. One woman commented after the session that sexuality is one of the least discussed and most needed subjects for breast cancer survivors to learn about. |
Any of us would be proud to have Emily Spivak, Founder and Executive Director of “Shop Well with You”. as our daughter. Fortunately, her mother was present to see her daughter share with the audience how she founded this innovative non profit after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. By canvassing the retail world, Emily has been able to bring together an assortment of attractive, comfortable and fashionable clothing items for women whose bodies have been changed through breast cancer. From tops that enabled easy access to ports for chemo to beautiful, draping shawls that flattered any figure, Spivak helped women understand that it's not “how it is not how people see you, but how you perceive yourself.” Together with Gaetan Benson, from our sponsor Eileen Fisher, they held a fashion show at lunch that entertained and inspired women. |
